come thou fount of every blessing

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.

Sorrowing I shall be in spirit,
Till released from flesh and sin,
Yet from what I do inherit,
Here Thy praises I’ll begin;
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here by Thy great help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood;

How His kindness yet pursues me
Mortal tongue can never tell,
Clothed in flesh, till death shall loose me
I cannot proclaim it well.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

O that day when freed from sinning,
I shall see Thy lovely face;
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace;
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away;
Send thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless day.

this hymn almost makes me cry, it's so beautifully poetic and still extremely worshipful. (i've highlighted my favorite lines.)

Adam

We went and saw Adam tonight. I really liked it, but it made me sad. We saw it in this cute little theater downtown, and we took pictures in the waiting room. Also, today at church we had a church picnic and I filled up countless water balloons for little children. And then I got soaked. By the same little kids who I filled up water balloons for... thanks little children. All in all it was a pretty good day. Sigh... tomorrow back to school.

happy weekend!

i'm officially finished with the first week of my junior year, and my first week at uncc! (only 15-ish more weeks to go...sigh.) all my classes seem (relatively) interesting, my professors seem nice, i've been able to find parking easily almost everyday, and miraculously avoided getting a ticket the day i couldn't. over all it's been a good week, it's left me super tired though...so i'm off to catch a nap before heading to work.

happy weekend!

Listmaking

I love making lists. Even if they don't really help me get anything done, I think they are pretty niffty. I make lists for school, cleaning, music and pretty much everything else. Here is a list of things that I especially love right now:

1. Mao. The card game.
2. Reading while listening to music.
3. Getting a new postcard.
4. Talking to people I haven't seen in a while.
5. Baking.
6. Attempting to play the piano.
7. Unconditional love.
8. Sushi.
9. Coffee.
10. When my parents dance around the kitchen. :)
11. Buying new books.
12. Looking through old pictures.
13. Hugs.
14. Having my hair played with.
15. Gardening with my dad.
16. Laughing until my stomach hurts.
17. Thrifting and being surprised at a great find.
18. Reading in front of the fireplace with a blanket and tea... I can't wait for winter.
19. Finding a new band I really like.
20. Going to the mountains in the winter and playing games around the fire.

back to school

school starts monday, which means for me (who procrastinates), these last few days have been kinda stressful and really tiring as i try to get my "ducks in a row".
ha ha

so in a effort to be optimistic i'm making a list of everything i'm looking forward to this coming school semester.
*clears throat*

excitement worthy things fall '09
  1. i'm finally at a university!!!!! (i've been at a community college and i now, finally, feel like a "real" college student)
  2. i love brick (which is pretty much what my entire school's campus is made of)
  3. i have some really great music to listen to as i walk from class to class (500 days of summer soundtrack is amaaaazing)!
  4. i'm taking a class about the planets, how rad is that?
  5. i'm finally going to buy these boots.
  6. i'll be continuing my quest for the perfect leather jacket.

that's all for now, what are you looking forward to as autumn approaches?

Yesterday was very nice

So,
Yesterday my friend Morgan came over. We had a great time. I haven't really been around my friends here a whole lot due to the fact that Emily and I were gone for a month this summer. It was great to hang out with her. We ended up talking about random things and making wonderful Banana Puff Pastries. Hopefully I'll have time for more baking during the school year. Here is a picture of the Puff Pastries:

Rainy Days

"When we are full of hope, it's not because everything in the future is certain to us, but because the future itself is filled with promise." --Erwin McManus

School officially starts in eleven days. That means in eleven days I'm going to be a senior. Scary. I thought the above quotation was fitting because although I'm uncertain of my future and what it holds, I'm trusting God and I'm full of hope because He holds my future in his hands. On another note, it's raining cats and dogs today and while I usually don't like the rain, I'm loving it today. I think a hot mug of tea sounds delightful on this rainy day. Here's to rainy days filled with hope and tea!

dollar tree reading

emily and i were at the dollar tree yesterday (which is, by the way, totally underrated) and i was perusing their book section and came across some of the most hilariously/absurd book titles. I thought i might share a few of them with you....

Savage Trust

The Cobra and the Concubine

The Barbarian ( the cover of this one was a fabio-esque looking guy riding a white stallion through the country side)

Unearthed-Zap! and Tess was gone

Desperate Tigress

Cornered Tigress (i think these were part of a series)

and my very favorite........Truly, Madly, Viking

i'm including the synopsis of Truly, Madly, Viking cause, well you'll see:

His boat off-course, distracted by a randy she-whale whose infatuation had somehow thrust him into the twenty-first century, Jorund Ericsson had cause to question his surroundings. And though the befuddled Viking thought he'd found heaven when he caught sight of the comely wench with the man-hair and the kiss-some lips, the lovely doctor simply thought him crazy. And Jorund realized the only thing that had driven him to the edge was her enticing figure.

He skyrocketed from the water and into Maggie's life: all sinewy muscles in a flawlessly proportioned body, a swath of long blond hair swept back from his brow. His claim to be a Viking from the tenth century made her smile. But it wasnt laughter that caused her stomach to flutter when the Hercules look-alike claimed her lips. And soon he had her believing his story, though questioning her own sanity. Then the psychologist realized there was another possibility: Neither of them was truly mad of they were truly, madly in love.

classic literature right?
