Answer: Very.

Right Now

I am happy because...

1. It's fall, my very favorite season.
2. My new job is awesome.
3. This semester is almost halfway over.
4. Camping trips are fun.
5. TV shows have started back with new seasons.
6. It is finally appropriate weather to drink hot chocolate.
7. my friends and family are the best (seriously, they are amazing).
8. Fall break is right around the corner.

Oh Stars...

I've been a fan of Stars for a long time, but this may be my new favorite song.

(I'll post vacation pictures as soon as my camera stops being stupid)

Monday, August 15, 2011

This picture is relatively unrelated to this post, other than it was taken in the ocean and I am at the beach.
Also, it's a crazy cool picture (I'm not sure if I would ever swim again if I were these people).

This post is just a quick note to say that we are very much enjoying our gulf coast vacation with our (immediate/extended)  family.

I wish I could live in a big house with my family forever.
Preferably by the beach.

Less Than A Week...

Until summer school is vanquished!!
Mwahaha!

The lack of posts recently (especially the lack of posts that require writing) is to be blamed on summer classes.

I swore to myself two summers ago "never again!",  and here I am again.

But I have learned things...

Things I Have Learned During Summer School

Wiring a circuit correctly makes you feel extremely accomplished.

Anti-derivatives are even less fun than derivatives.

Bones is possibly the most addicting show ever.

Summer loses a lot of it's charm when you are not at the pool/beach.

Always make friends in your classes, study buddies are the best, so is having someone to talk to.

One more week...

I especially agree with #s three, four, seven, eleven.

And nine, you read my mind, whoever let me sign up for Calculus II and Physics II during the summer should be punished.

Nicest Thing

I think this song is a bit angst-y...
But it is also sad and has a violin.

And I'm a sucker for sad songs with violins.
Ergo, I'm posting this song on my blog.
Go Figure.

Day 3: A Book You Love

I love many books, but I just finished Out Of The Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis.

It. Was. Amazing.

Admittedly, it did take me a little bit to really get into it, but once I did, oh my! I was underlining passages right and left!

It is basically about a man who gets kidnapped, taken to another planet, and is forced to find his own way once there. But it is also thought-provoking, and eye-opening, and gave me tons to think about.

I would highly recommend it.

Monday

Working All Day...
But This WebSite Is Rad.

"Day" 2: Something I feel Strongly About

Relationships, I really do believe relationships are the most important things in life, iphones get lost or squished, viewpoints can change, habits and passions alter, but you always need relationships in your life.

The relationships in my life: with God, my family, and my friends are my anchors, I can't imagine moving through life alone, I don't think life is a journey people are meant to take by themselves.

I don't want to get preachy or give you a sales pitch "Go Make More Friends!",  but I do think, the lasting relationships in my life are the most important things I have.

Day 1

So, I'm blaming the lack of post yesterday on blogger being down, yes, it was only down for a few hours but that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Sooo....

Five Ways To Win My Heart:
or
Five Things I Find Attractive

1. A sense of humor, or more importantly a sense of humor similar to mine. Any man who can appreciate Tom Haverford and will people watch with me gets extra bonus points.

2. Smarts, street and book. I don't want a dummy, 'nuff said.

3. Chivalry, I love a guy who is a gentlemen, who will take care of his lady, I want someone who will take care of me.

4. I like gifts, giving me gifts is a sure-fire way to win my heart, especially shoes and swedish fishes.

5. Also, any man who looks like Mark Sloan from Grey's Anatomy has a pretty decent chance of winning my heart.

30 Day Challenge

I was (and still am) on Emily's computer avoiding studying, and I found this:

I haven't been blogging or writing for a while, so I think this might be a good way to kickstart myself.

I'm not going to beat myself up if I don't write everyday, but I am going to try my best to be consistent.

I'm hoping this will be a fun, thoughtful bl-urney (blog journey)!

See you tomorrow for day one...

I'm done with blogging. I love reading blogs, and I loved posting, but I just don't find it enjoyable anymore.   So my portion of this blog is over.

Music Love

First of all I love Bon Iver, I could listen to Blood Bank on repeat for days.

But my friend Jillian (who is crazy talented), posted this:

on her facebook the other day, and since then I have not been able to stop listening to it.

See what you think.

Weekend Update: By Katie

This weekend I was struck with pink eye!
Only in one eye originally, but this morning I awoke to discover the pink had moseyed on over to the other eye.
Meeh:(

But that's okay,
as a result of my social quarantine, I've had the time to waste a good amount of time on the world wide web.

These are my findings:
1. The Adele station on pandora is my soul mate.

2. This is one of the ugliest hair styles I have ever seen, my apologies to anyone sporting deconstructed braids, I hope the brain damage you are suffering from isn't permanent.

3. I'm pretty sure I want to take a road trip through Iceland for my honeymoon.

That's about it....
I mean, I could tell you way to much about some people's lives (via facebook),
Or summarize a season of 30 Rock for you.

But I'm pretty sure you do not want to hear about any of that so.... adios!

Bulking Up Over Spring Break

Emily and I took a trip to Nashville for our spring break, the weather was kind of gloomy but we had an awesome time hanging out with our family and friends there.

We didn't get a lot of pictures, but if we had documented out trip, I'm pretty sure most of our photos would have been of us eating.

We had amazing burgers and fried pickles at Burger Up.

Enjoyed coffee with a hint of banana at The Frothy Monkey.

Emily tried a paleta for the first time.

Tried barbeque tacos at Taco Mamacita...Yum!

Ate at our dad's favorite place to dine in Nashville, The Copper Kettle.

Went to the Whiskey Kitchen, apparently that's where all the famous people eat.

Grabbed cupcakes at Gigi's.

And topped it all off with some of Jeni's ice cream.

Amid all that eating we also managed to cook a couple of times and tried grilled pb&j for the first time (soooooo good!).

Basically I chubbed up hard core for spring break...and loved every minute of it!

Cement

Yesterday I stepped in cement. More of a sink than a step actually. This was in front of the man that had paved the said cement.
My new boots hate me. As does the paver man.
I am awesome.

2011: The Year of Reading

After my last book post, I've slowed down considerably. I read The Reader (Der Vorlesser) by Bernhard Schlink and started Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer, and No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy. I really need to focus on spending more time reading, and less time on the computer. It's a constant struggle. Are any of you reading anything great? I'm always up for recommendations :).

Beauty

Is that beautiful or what? If you say what, I shall slap you.
Oh, how I long to travel. Well I am traveling now, but I wish it was my life always and forever.
Speaking of always and forever:

Haha. Awkward.

You Are What You Eat

I saw The Value of a Dollar Project by Jonathan Blaustein on DesignCrush and I think it's quite clever.

You could eat this for a $1:

 Or you could eat this:

You could eat this for $1:

 Or this:

And we wonder why people don't eat healthy foods. Hmm maybe because it's about 10x more expensive to eat good, nutritious foods. That makes me mad. Why are greasy, fattening foods marketed so heavily (no pun intended) and so cheap while the beneficial foods aren't? I watched Food Inc recently and it opened my eyes to where our food comes from. I would highly recommend it. Just don't plan on watching it while you eat fast food.

Three things by caryrandolph

1. I gravitate to the button-down shirts in soft, almost threadbare fabrics, the kind that drape in all the right places, as perfect for the beach as a black-tie ball. I wear them unbuttoned to that point at the sternum that might be inappropriate if I lean over the asparagus and feel like raising hell. To build your own library of button-downs, start with a plain white broadcloth, find the fit you love, and rarely deviate. Avoid darts.
2. All I ever really want to drink is ice cold water. Arnold Palmers on holidays.
3. Mom tells us to marry men who are proud of us. I think I want to marry a man who, after the lights are turned off, can still keep me up for hours talking and laughing. We used to do that when we were kids, and we’d prop the phones on our pillows and talk and talk till the sky turned dawn gray. Talk about nothing and name our children and tell the old stories, gossip, laughing, lying next to each other. Roll over and raise our arms and count fingers silhouetted against the light from the street lamp that shines through the window. Fall asleep mid-sentence, something sweet on our lips. These are always the nights that I fall completely in love.

I especially like the third. Too bad I'm a hopeless case when it comes to manlys. Oh bother.

Apocalyptic Park

Moi

So. Abigail and I used to adventure all the time. We even had a whole day dedicated to adventuring. But now that we're both consumed by school (my freshman year of college and her junior year of high school), we don't get to adventure as much as we used to. Sad I know.

On Friday though, it was gorgeous so we decided to meet some friends at a nearby park. Unbeknownst to us was that this park was an apocalyptic park. Okay, I may exaggerate a little. It wasn't really, but it felt like it. See the park used to be a racing strip for go karts long, long ago. Now though it's a ball park with a jungle gym and dog park. If you take the time to explore it though, there's much more.

Whilst exploring we found a creek under the highway:

Beautiful Bridge

A hill with little ravines:

Abbers

And a pepsi can hidden deep in the woods:

Old Pepsi can in the woods

It was beautiful. I love days when you can just get away and explore. Which is why we went back the next day :).

Hope you get the chance to explore some this week!

Thinking...

I've had lots to think about these last couple of weeks.
A lot of decisions to make.
Trying to figure out what I am going to do with my life.

I think I may just join the circus.

Random fun fact of the day: I need my hairs cut.
Just thought i'd share.

Happiest Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day is definitely not my favorite holiday, but nonetheless, here is a lovely picture via http://colormekatie.blogspot.com/. In honor of the day of love i'm including the most romantic of sonnets (at least in my opinion).

SONNET 116

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

- William Shakespeare

2011: The Year of Reading

Since my last post about books I've been reading like a fiend. Seriously.

I finished Brave New World, The Road, Never Let Me Go, The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. I highly recommend them all, minus Never Let Me Go, which was good, but not great. I love the feeling of being engrossed in a book. So. Amazing.

Speaking of amazing, if you haven't read The Road or The Hunger Games trilogy do so now. Yes that's an order. You'll thank me later.

Anywho, I have class to get to, bleh. But, next up is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Hopefully it will live up to it's reputation.

Best valentine's day card EVER.

Pictures!

Calm down people,
I know you have all been dying to see more pictures from my trip to Nicaragua (note the sarcasm), so here they are:

Ta-Da! I feel like I might have stole the first picture from the internet, but I promise I did see that volcano quite a bit actually. Which was pretty much amazing 'cause how many times in my life have I lived five miles away from a volcano? Not very many times.

It was a really amazing trip. I may write more in detail about it later, but for now you will have to be content with pictures.

In other news, I'm in love with quaker rice snacks, in fact, I just ate an entire bag of them. The first time this happened I freaked out a little, because although on the back of the bag they say they are low in calories per serving, every delicious bag has like 45 servings in it! Maybe that's an exaggeration, but still, it was a decent amount of rice snacks.
I've since stopped looking at the back of the bag.

Well, that's about it for now, so, feliz año del conejo! How's that for multi-cultural?

Surprise tests are not my flavorite

Today my teacher walked into class with pieces of paper and said, "Are you all ready?". I was puzzled by this, until I realized he was handing us our test. The test I haven't studied for because I thought it was scheduled for Thursday. Yeah. I think I did okay though due to my mum's love for history.

Also, I'm wanting some coffee. Too bad I'm a poor kid who has to buy food at school, leaving no money for coffee.

Oh well. At least I have some sweet moccasins.

Super sweet.

Fresh Starts

I haven't written in sooo long.

I lost inspiration for blogging, but it's slowly coming back.

Instead of recapping my life and the holidays, I'm going to start fresh beginning with the new year.

This year our family is doing the Daniel fast which is where you only eat vegetables, nuts and seeds, legumes, quality oils, fruits, soy products, whole grains with no leavening agents and drink distilled water or purified water. So that means no meat or animal products, all dairy products, all sweeteners, bread (other than pita's and the like), fried foods, all solid fats (butter, margarine etc.), carbonated beverages, coffee, and tea. So far it's been really good although I will admit i'm a lot more hungry than normal, but I think that's probably good since I tend to eat a lot :). It's helping me to refocus on my relationship with God, and on what my body really needs.

So I guess those are two of my resolutions for this year. Seeking God with all of me, and being healthy. I might share my other resolutions at some point, but today I need to get going on some projects.

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

Emily

Also, if you're interested in learning more about the Daniel fast here's a link: http://danielfast.wordpress.com/daniel-fast-food-list/
