a dying breed

my friend rebecca and i were talking the other day about how gentlemen are a dying breed and how we, as ladies, are very sorry to see them go. since said conversation, i've been observing guys around me, and have been happily surprised that there are still some chivalrous men out there!

it also occurred to me that, while elated by my findings of gentlemen, they were relatively few and far between.

now i know that my findings are far from conclusive, but this is just the way it appears to me.

and as a women i am telling all you guys out there, girls really like it when you act like a gentlemen. my opinion of a guy skyrockets when i see him being thoughtful and courteous (even when the courteousness is not directed at me).

so this is my list of chivalrous behavior:

1. open doors for people.

2. if you're getting up to get something (say at the dinner table) ask the people around you if they would like anything too. *

3. it's nice to offer the girl the front seat of the car (note: this only applies when there are more than 2 people in the car & you are not driving)

4. offer to drive (if the girl wants to drive, let her, but i would much rather ride then drive)

5. genuinely listen to people, even if you're not interested in what they're saying, there is nothing more tacky than when a person makes it known that they do not want to be involved in a conversation. (side note: this to me is an extremely attractive quality, especially when they are genuinely interested in what others say)*

6. help out; i was at a lunch for a school organization and it was so refreshing when one of the guys there simply started to help clean up.*

7. give up your seat for ladies (eg. on the subway/train/public transportation) *(this applies to girls too if the person is older, pregnant or has young children).

8. In general follow the golden rule.*

* means this rule applies to ladies too.

so this is my soap box speech for tonight.
goodnight

Back

My sister Emily and I just got back from my grandma's house in Tennessee. We visited our friends in Nashville and got to hang out with all our friends who live in the same town as my grandma. The only sad thing is that when my grandma moves in with us we won't be able to see our friends up there as much. Some high points of the trip include.... Going to Nashville and visiting a pet shelter, dance party, and walking around the mall in Cleveland with our friends. Here are some pictures from the trip:

Our camera took some pretty fly pictures.
We bought our friend a V for Vendetta mask and it soon became popular at the party. Notice V lurking in the background.
And we found an awesome Halloween store.

my mom is out of town for the week, so i'm left to fend for myself food-wise. which is pretty cool with me, 'cause my mom is really into health food.....i however am not.
exhibit #1: lunch ------>
i did however drink water with lunch, so that's a plus!

Listening and Loving

We just got the new Ingrid Michaelson album. I really like it. Which isn't a surprise since I like all of her albums that I've heard. I especially like the song Are We There Yet.

On another note, my sister Emily and I are leaving for my grandma's house tomorrow. I'm pretty excited, because other than seeing her, we will get to hang out with some of our friends. Yipee!

Lake Day

This post is a little late, but last week (?) we went out for a day on the lake. It was so much fun. My dad rented a boat and a tube, and we actually got my mom tubing, it was a great family day.
Here are some pictures:

The one problem was that we got stuck... and had to push the boat :)

my favorite thing in my closet... currently.

The other day my friend Morgan and I went to Goodwill. I found a awesome Andy Warhol quote book thing. But, my favorite thing I found was a cobalt/teal colored fake-leather blazer. I tried it on as a joke, and it actually looked good! So, Morgan graciously bought it for me as a birthday present. When we got out of the store, she announced she wasn't going to give it to me until my birthday... which is in October. I was disappointed, but okay with it. BUT, I convinced her to give it to me early!!! I think I'm in love... except not, because that would be a little strange. I get excited when I think about wearing it places. :))
